Wearable quilts. What could be better?
A quilted jacket or vest are two examples of wearable quilts. Skirts are another. The whole piece can be quilted or just sections of it. You can make it all yourself, buy prequilted fabric and make the item or even buy a finished item right from the store. Any way you do it, it shows the world that you love quilts.
Quilted clothing is designed to keep you warm. Many mass-produced jackets and coats have quilted linings. I've started seeing jackets and vests for this fall that are quilted on the outside too.
I hope you enjoy the quilted clothing items posted here. If you have an item you'd like to add, click the

When we were younger, my sister and I both had long, patchwork skirts made from calico squares. We called them maxi skirts because they went down to our ankles, vs mini skirts that were very short. I remember that my sister loved to wear hers. And I remember when she fell into the shallow end of our inground pool while wearing it! Can you imagine how heavy a soaking wet long quilted skirt would be? Being about 8 years old, it was probably as much as she did at the time. Here's my daughter wearing my sister's skirt. - Tammy, Wilton Center, IL, USA
I made this jacket several years ago from a quilted fabric and a coordinating floral fabric for the lining. It has side pockets and elasticized sleeves. The sleeve pattern was too long, so my daughter shortened it for me. But now when I raise my arms, the sleeves are too short! OOPS! - Joanne, Peotone, IL, USA
I made this jacket from a book called Jacket Jazz. It provides a couple different jacket patterns and each section of the jacket can be made from different types of "quilts". Most of the back of my jacket is a log cabin pattern. The front lower sections has some fabric ties that are knotted for interest. The sleeves are made with a folded fabric technique and a chenille technique. The trick is to choose coordinated fabrics so the colors look right while still showing off the different techniques used. - Tammy, Wilton Center, IL, USA
