This is a Cathedral Windows quilt. They are fairly complicated. They use a large amount of fabric. The block starts out 4x larger and ends as a small block with colored insert. They are quite time consuming. It's lovely and probably valuable in the quilt community as again they take a year or two to make in a full size. You should unfold and take a another picture. Show it off, its yours and it will be years before you create another. You can find the pattern online and there are a few demos.

Cathedral Window by: Anonymous
This quilt pattern is called cathedral window. It is made by folding the white and inserting the colored "windows", then sewing the layers together. There isn't usually any batting because the folded layers make it heavy enough. This is a pretty example of the pattern.
