A 1/4" seam foot on your machine makes for perfect seams.

When sewing a quilt block, most patterns call for a 1/4" seam. Having a 1/4" seam foot on your machine helps you accurately sew the pattern pieces together.

The foot is made of plastic and is exactly 1/4" wide from the needle position to the outside edge. This allows you to line up your pieces right at the edge of the foot to sew an accurate 1/4" seam allowance.

Standard feet that come with your sewing machine are not sized for the seam allowance of 1/4", so you have to purchase this foot separately. "Little Foot" is the most popular brand of this type of foot. You should be able to find one made for your specific sewing machine without too much difficulty at a quilting or sewing machine shop near you. I'm sure that you could find it online too. The foot featured here is for Singer machines, models 6500, 2623, 7300, 3800, 6038, 1100, 2638.
