A sampler quilt shows many different patterns
A quilt that has many different patterns on it is called a sampler quilt. As young ladies would practice their sewing skills, they would make different quilt blocks. When they had completed enough of them, the blocks would all be put together into one quilt, resulting in a sample of their handiwork. I've said before that I don't generally like sampler quilts, but as I make more and more quilts, samplers are a big part of what I'm doing. A great example of a sampler quilt is the block of the month series that was organized by the staff of
Top Shelf Quilts
. Each month for over a year, they put together kits for 4 blocks from the Sylvia's Bridal Quilt book. There were 2 color sets that quilters could choose from - Spring (pastels) and Autumn (darker colors). Some of the completed quilts are shown below. See how each one turned out differently and so beautifully!
You can see more of these quilts individually below.Did you notice the other 2 samplers hanging in the background? There are so many ways to create your own sampler quilt.

It can be one you made or were given or bought. We love to see all quilts, even if it's a UFO (an Un Finished Object).
Hearing who the quilt is for, why the colors or patterns were chosen, etc provides us all with more inspiration. Just fill in the boxes below and add a picture. The picture must be under 100 kb in size. If you don't know what that means, click on the ? in the picture box to learn more.
