One Log Cabin quilt can look very different from another Log Cabin quilt

Log Cabin quilt patterns are easily recognized, but there are many many different ways to arrange the blocks and cause each quilt to take on a whole different look. Some of the different arrangements have names such as Sunshine and Shadow, Courthouse Steps, Pineapple, and Straight Furrow.

Log Cabin quilts can be made with scraps or with material purchased specifically for the quilt and is easy enough for beginners to accomplish. Advanced quilters also enjoy the pattern because of the many design possibilities.

The history of the log cabin quilt pattern dates back to the mid 1700's, but the pattern has been found on animal mummies from Ancient Egypt and in crop fields in the Middle Ages. Some of today's Log Cabin patterns have a new, fun look that comes from being twisted and turned.
