Easter Vacations

I made this quilt block for a contest that the Experimental Aircraft Association is having during their AirVenture aircraft show in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, in June. The block is called "Aircraft". I used fabric showing motifs from the Bahamas, where I spent many Easter school vacations as a kid. My parents both had private pilots licenses and we would fly down in our own Cessna 421 plane for a week or so. I appliqued a Cessna 421 plane on it, to show us on the way. To show the spin of the propellers, I cut ovals from frosted template plastic and glued them on. I think it worked perfectly. I quilted a cloud and a simple airplane design in each section.
